The German Parliament approved the new Infection Protection Act in Berlin on Thursday, paving the way for further restrictions for the unvaccinated on public transport and workplaces.

“With this bill, the states have more possibilities of acting efficiently than with the currently legal status,” argued Sabine Dittmar, an MP for the Social Democrats party.

“We abandon and secure that the health authorities can impose individual shut downs during specific outbreaks to contain the infection event,” Dittmar added, as the old bill was set to expire on November 25.

Out of 688 votes, 398 voted in favour of the Act, 254 voted against it and 36 did not vote.

The new regulations include working from home where possible, 3G rules applying to public transport, which is to be controlled with ‘random checks’ and visitors to care homes and old people’s homes are to be tested on the day.

The measures are still to be approved by the Bundesrat on Friday.
