Greece: Fires on Evia island out of control amid record heatwave

Fires were raging out of control on the island of Evia (Euboea) on Wednesday, as Greece battles with one of its hottest weeks on record.

The blazes broke out on Tuesday on the island northeast of Athens forcing many to flee to the shore to escape the island by boat.

Around 150 homes have already been claimed by the wildfire.

Greece recorded 81 fires on Tuesday as an extreme heatwave hit the country with temperatures reaching 46 Celsius.
