Hundreds of cars remained stranded on the Attiki Odos highway in Athens on Wednesday, two days after the heavy snow storm on Monday.

More than 3000 vehicles were trapped on the highway during the storm, and though most of the cars were freed on Tuesday, hundreds of cars still awaited assistance from the army and fire brigade on Wednesday.

SOT, Evangelos Dodotzidis, Driver: “These are the bottles with the fuel after 12 hours. I need to buy a few bottles of fuel to be warming.”

SOT, Evangelos Dodotzidis, Driver: “All this was very badly organised. We knew a few days earlier that it would happen, but they didn’t take the necessary actions to protect us.”

SOT,Panagiotis Charalambopoulos, Driver (Greek): “Tragedy. We suffered indeed, some older people nearly died. A man fainted in the train station and could get help. And there was this tension, where? Inside the city of Athens.”

SOT, Panagiotis Charalambopoulos, Driver (Greek): “I feel sad for what’s happening here. It is sad, because one uses a privately owned highway and pays tolls in order to receive every available service and what one gets is what you see around here.”
