Greece: Refugees seek to cross Europe at Greek Idomeni border crossing

Hundreds of asylum seekers have been spotted in recent weeks near the Greek border village of Idomeni, the famous pass-through of 2015-2016 to North Macedonia and the Balkan Route for refugees.

Refugees and migrants arrive mostly by cargo train, as they reportedly jump on the carriages when the trains slow down in junctions, trying to cross the Greek-Macedonian border. Groups were seen coming and going on Wednesday as many claim to have experienced police violence along the route.

“Taliban has attacked to Afghanistan and the Afghan people have problem and the Turkey police and the Greece police are so bad behave to our country people, and I want to request in all of the countries, they will save Afghan people and let me go to Europe,” said one asylum seeker from Afghanistan.

Most of those crossing through Idomeni are from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Pakistan.​
