'I did everything to solve these crimes' - Putin on murders of Politkovskaya, Nemtsov

During his annual end-of-year press conference in Moscow on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin was asked whether authorities were doing everything possible to uncover the people who ordered the assassinations of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya in 2006 and leading opposition politician Boris Nemtsov in 2015.

“I did everything to solve these crimes and the relevant instructions and orders were given to law enforcement and special services. As you know, people are in prison for the committed crimes,” he said.

He added that “There is an opinion that the people who ordered the assassinations are hidden, or are hiding but thus far the investigating officials have no knowledge of this.”
