“For 20 years, American troops were present in this territory and for 20 years they tried to civilise people so to speak, so as not to offend anyone, meaning to introduce their own norms and standards of life in the broadest sense of the word, including in the political structure of society,” Putin said.

“The result is only tragedies, only losses both for those who did it - the United States, and even more so for those people who live in Afghanistan. The result is zero, if not negative,” added the Russian president.
