‘India Celebrates Muted Holi Amid Rising Coronavirus Cases’

India celebrated a muted Holi over the last two days, amid an alarming surge of Covid-19 cases.

Holi marks the advent of spring and is widely celebrated in Hindu-majority areas.

Normally, millions of people would throw coloured powder at each other at outdoor celebrations.

However, for the second consecutive year, citizens were encouraged to stay at home.

India’s confirmed infections have exceeded 60,000 daily over the past week.

On Monday, the Health Ministry reported 68,020 new cases of coronavirus.

The virus has so far claimed 161,843 lives in the country.
