‘Serum Institute: Deadly Fire at World’s Largest Covid Vaccine Producer’

A deadly fire broke out today at the site of the world’s largest vaccine producer.

The Serum Institute in India has been contracted to produce one billion doses of the Oxford University-AstraZeneca jab for Covid-19, known as ‘Covishield’.

Five people were killed when the blaze broke out in a building still under construction.

But the CEO Adar Poonawalla said neither production nor the company’s vaccine stockpile was affected.

As well as the UK, many developing countries are depending on vaccine supply from The Serum Institute.
