An inspiring Italian Paralympics athlete received a standing ovation during President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen’s State of the European Union address in Strasbourg on Wednesday.
Beatrice (Bebe) Vio became an inspiration for a generation after winning Paralympics gold in wheelchair fencing, defending her Rio Gold in Tokyo. Vio had her limbs amputated after contracting meningitis aged 11.
