LIVE: Von der Leyen delivers State of the Union address in Strasbourg

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is delivering the State of the European Union address in Strasbourg on Wednesday, September 15.

In her speech, Von der Leyen is expected to focus on the bloc’s response to the COVID pandemic, including vaccination efforts, the EU’s economic recovery, the fight against climate change, the Digital Agenda and the Conference on the Future of Europe.

Foreign policy matters such as the EU’s approach to geopolitical challenges following the withdrawal from Afghanistan are also expected to be mentioned.

After the speech, MEPs will hold a session to debate the topics addressed by the Commission President.​
