LIVE: Michel and Von der Leyen hold presser following G7 leaders' meeting on Afghanistan crisis

European Council President Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen are giving a press conference in Brussels following the special virtual session of G7 leaders’ on the situation in Afghanistan on Tuesday, August 24.

Speaking in the House of Commons last Wednesday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was presiding over the Group of Seven, said his country “will work to unite the international community behind a clear plan for dealing with this regime in a unified and concerted way.”

G7 governments have faced mounting criticism over their attempts to coordinate following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, as scrambled evacuation efforts and chaotic scenes with Afghans trying to escape followed in the days after the Taliban’s takeover on August 15.
