Israel approved a fourth vaccination jab for the vulnerable, as announced by the country’s health ministry director in Jerusalem on Thursday.
Speaking during a televised address, Nachman Ash recommended the second booster shot against COVID19 to people with weakened immune systems, besides those over 60 and medical workers, who have been recommended to freshen up their vaccine for a second time earlier in the week.
“The need for a fourth booster shot was discussed in the Management Team of Epidemic for 9 days when the main consideration was the data showing the weakening of the third booster shot. It exists, slow, slower than the wearing off of the second shot, but it does exist. We know that the Omicron is partly resistant to the vaccine but a booster shot gives better protection from Omicron,” stated Ash.
The move comes as many countries are rolling out their first booster shots to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID19. Israel registered 2,967 new coronavirus cases as of Tuesday 28.
