Some 75 migrants stranded in stormy weather conditions were rescued off Italy’s southern shore in Le Cannella, on Thursday night.
During the night, the coast guard, along with other local authorities, were alerted to a sailing ship that ran aground due to strong winds which also made the rescue difficult.
The strong waves caused the boat to tilt. As a rescue by sea was not possible the authorities used a dinghy and tied it to the boat and the beach while they entered the water to rescue the migrants. All 75 people on board were rescued.
