Dozens of protesters gathered central Rome, Monday, to rally against the COVID health pass as the number of coronavirus cases in Italy rise again.
The protest was scheduled to take place in front of the Italian parliament, where this morning the provisions related to the Green Pass decree were discussed. However, the police blocked access to the Montecitorio Square and prevented protesters from rallying in front of the Italian parliament.
Participants could be seen displaying banners, saying “No Green pass” and “Hands off the children”.
“The European Commission has said that the Green Pass must be something facilitating, not discriminating. In Italy, it is being used as a discriminatory element. Vaccinated versus the unvaccinated. Why should they divide society?” a protester asked.
In recent days, protesters opposed to the Green Pass led by members of the far-right Fuorza Nova party have met in Piazza del Popolo on more than one occasion, threatening to march towards the Italian parliament.
The pass has been in force since August 6 and is mandatory for those who want to enter bars, restaurants, museums, gyms or swimming pools. The government plans to make the Green Pass mandatory for public workers from October.
More than 130,000 people died with COVID-19 in Italy since the pandemic started.

SOT, Angelo di Stefano, Protester (Italian): “400,000 companies have closed. Head of family. And they (Government) tell us that the economy is going well. This is an insult to human intelligence. We will be throughout Italy. Bologna, Milan, Turin. People need to have rights. And I repeat: I am a vaccinated man. But I am against the Green Pass.”
SOT, Ivo, Protester (Italian): “The European Commission has said that the Green Pass must be something facilitating, not discriminating. In Italy it is being used as a discriminatory element. Vaccinated versus the unvaccinated. Why should they divide society?”
SOT, Cesare Brai, Protester (Italian): “It Green Pass] is proving highly discriminatory. Because it is necessary to enter a bar and it is discriminatory in the workplace. I know people who don’t know how they will go to work. Women with children who only have one salary and who must pay for all the tests, making it difficult to feed their children. The State does not bother to give them aid and money.”
