Latvia: German President Steienmeier arrives in Riga ahead of working visit

At the invitation of Latvian President Egils Levits, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Riga on a two-day working visit on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Steinmeier will participate in the international academic conference ‘100 years of Satversme,’ held at the Riga Castle on Wednesday. He will deliver the speech titled “For Democracy and Freedom in Europe - Lessons from our Common Constitutional Tradition.”

The presidential motorcade was seen approaching Riga Castle, where the heads of state will hold a personal meeting.

After the conference, President Levits and President Steinmeier, also patrons of the Riga Wagner Hall reconstruction project, will visit the famous house. Both heads of state are booked to visit the site of Rail Baltica construction project to underline the significance of the project in enhancing the future connectivity of the Baltic Sea region.
