At least 28 people were killed and 79 injured following a fuel tank explosion in the Akkar district of Lebanon on Sunday, according to the country’s health ministry.
Crowds could be seen confronting military personnel at the scene, while reports suggested that the army had seized a fuel tank storage and begun to hand out gasoline to residents when the explosion happened.
There has been no official information on what may have caused the blast.
Lebanon has been suffering from a severe fuel shortage in recent months, failing to import fuel due to a shortage in US currency reserves.
