Lebanon: Firefighters continue efforts to contain wildfires in Akkar

Firefighters worked tirelessly to tame the flames burning the forests of the Kobayat region near Akkar, in northern Lebanon, on Thursday. The blaze, on its second day, has killed at least one person.

The massive fire spread from town to town, reaching residential areas and spreading into Syria.

The blaze left a sea of blackened trees wholly burned, some even turned into ash, leaving scenes of desolation and destruction.

Cyprus sent firefighting aircraft to help Lebanon control the fire, while civil defence officials and firefighters carried out extinguishing operations.
