Libya: Misrata port announces first cruise in 25 years

Misrata’s Marine Terminal company announced the return of its marine transport, with the first cruise in more than 25 years, as seen on Wednesday.
The cruise ship will depart from Misrata and head towards Izmir, Turkey, with a carrying capacity of around 800 passengers. The ship is operated by Kevalay and Libyan passengers were seen lining up for the opportunity.
“We consider this project in Misrata an especially a large one,” said Mohamed AboTreika, one of the passengers. “It’s a meaningful project and we consider it a good initiative that will benefit the country.”
The port will also operate weekly journeys to Istanbul, with further destinations to Egypt, Italy, Malta, Tunisia and Saudi Arabic planned in the future.

SOT, Taha Hadid, Chief Executive Officer (Arabic): “Today, Wednesday the 1st of December, we are witnessing the official opening of Misrata’s Marine Terminal and initiating the first sea voyages from Misrata to Izmir port after halting for more than 25 years. The trip will start after one hour from now so that it can reach it’s destination after 48 hours using the Kevalay ship owned by the Kevalay marine transport company.”
