EU leaders hold national briefings in Brussels on Friday, October 22, on the second day of the European Council meeting. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are among the leaders expected to speak. Some of the national briefings will be recorded and not live.

EU leaders are set to discuss the recent surge in energy prices and assess measures that can be taken on both a national and a European level to address the impacts of this price increase. Issues such as migration, EU trade policy, and the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including vaccination strategies, are also expected to be discussed.

The European Council is also set to prepare for the COP26 meeting on climate change in Glasgow on October 31-November 12, 2021.
