The EU Commission gives a press statement on Tuesday, March 8 following the College meeting on strategies to make the European Union less dependent on Russian fossil fuel imports due to the conflict with Ukraine.

The College meeting happens as energy prices have been rising all over Europe. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the debate will focus on diversifying suppliers, repowering the EU by investing in renewables and improving energy efficiency.

In October, the European Commission adopted a communication on energy prices, so the EU can address the immediate impact of current price increases and further strengthen the block’s resilience against future shocks.
