Ruptly is live from La Palma in the Canary Islands on Thursday, November 18, as the volcano in the La Cumbre Vieja area continues to erupt almost two months since the volcanic activity started.

According to local media reports, the volcano claimed its first victim last week when a 70-year-old volunteer was killed after a roof collapsed as he was cleaning up volcanic ash.

Partially destroying more than 2,000 buildings and covering more than 1,000 hectares of mostly farmland, lava continues to flow intensively from the volcano. The eruptions prompted evacuations of more than 7,000 people from numerous villages of the island’s 85,000 residents.

Scientists have warned that the eruptions could continue for weeks or even months. Mandatory Credit: RTVC
