Lava flowed towards the sea as the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Islands’ La Palma continued to erupt early on Wednesday morning.

Partially destroying more than 2,000 buildings and covering more than 1,000 hectares of mostly farmland, lava continues to flow intensively from the volcano almost two months since the volcanic activity started.

The eruptions have prompted evacuations of more than 7,000 people from numerous villages of the island’s 85,000 residents.
