LIVE: Macron arrives to address European Parliament as France takes over EU presidency

French President Emmanuel Macron arrives in Strasbourg on Wednesday, January 19 as the six-month French presidency of the European Union begins. Macron will address the European Parliament to explain the priorities of France’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. France took over the presidency from Slovenia, for the first six months of 2022. Ahead of assuming the presidency, Macron said that France would work in order to apply a program for a more ‘powerful’ and ‘sovereign’ Europe.
