The UN Human Rights Council is holding a special session in Geneva’s Palais des Nations on Tuesday, August 24, to discuss the “serious human rights concerns and situation in Afghanistan.”

The request to convene the special session was jointly submitted by Pakistan’s and Afghanistan’s representatives.

The international community’s concerns about human rights violations in Afghanistan intensified after the Taliban seized power in Kabul earlier in August.​
