Malaysia: Residents and NGOs continue clean-up operations in flood-ravaged Taman Sri Muda

Citizens started cleaning up residential areas and streets with the help of NGOs on Sunday in the aftermath of heavy flooding in Taman Sri Muda.

After the floodwaters fully receded, people could be seen removing debris from their houses and streets and drying their belongings outside. Local NGOs started handing out clothes and groceries to the victims of the flooding a week after the water masses inundated the area.

Out of the 210 affected places in six Malaysian states, Taman Sri Muda was one of the most affected areas where the flood damaged infrastructures and forced people to evacuate.

In total, about 70,000 people had to leave their homes to escape the floods triggered by days of heavy rain.

The Southeast Asian nation is hit by floods annually during the monsoon season, but those at the weekend were the worst since 2014.
