The Day of the Dead Parade was resurrected in Mexico City following a year’s hiatus, due to the corona pandemic.
Thousands of visitors attended Sunday’s five-hour long event. La Catrina, skeletons, and mariachis could be seen passing by on Paseo de la Reforma avenue towards Field of Mars in the Mexican capital.
This traditional parade takes place in honour of relatives that passed away. According to Mexican traditional, many believe the dead visit this world on this given day.
Translations:
SOT, Dana Paulina, Student (Spanish): “The parade is very beautiful. It feels very good because in a very long time I did not go out to the streets.”
SOT, Dana Paulina, Student (Spanish): “Very good but also a little bad. Because the pandemic is still going on and many people are out there. Well, put the mask on because many people do not wear a mask.”
SOT, Phenicia, Student (Spanish): “Very pretty. The truth is that the entire parade was incredible and the artists with a very good attitude as always.”
SOT, Phenicia, Student (Spanish): “Well, it is important to take care of ourselves and not lower our guard, but I think that we already needed a bit of joy after so much confinement. I think the people here are incredible, but I would like them to put on their masks. It is important to bring it and not take it off but many people do not use it. We try to keep our distance for our little girl.”
