Mexico: Injured migrants recover in hospital after deadly road accident

Dozens of injured migrants remained in Mexican Red Cross facilities in the city of Tuxla-Gutierrez on Friday after the truck they were travelling in crashed, killing at least 55 people and injuring dozens more.

The injured migrants were filmed in the corridors and lying on beds of the Red Cross centre as they were being treated by doctors and paramedics.

“I felt that on a curve I was going at high speed, it just lifted on one side and could no longer compose itself and rolled over. I was underneath others, there were three others on top of me,” said Hector, a migrant who was injured in the accident.

According to local reports, the truck was carrying 150 people, mostly of Guatemalan origin, on their way to Puebla to reach the US-Mexico border. The accident was reportedly caused by speeding.
