Mexico: Migrants travelling in caravan clash with police near Pijijiapan

Intense confrontations broke out between members of the Mexican National Guard and a group of migrants travelling towards Mexico City in a caravan, near Pijijiapan, in the state of Chiapas, on Thursday.

National Guard members wearing riot gear approached the travelling group, who hurled sticks and stones, among other objects, at them. A member of the National Guard can be seen lying in the road.

The National Guard finally withdrew, amid flying rocks and sticks. At least one officer and several migrants were reportedly injured.

According to local media, the National Guard and the National Migration Institute (INM) had tried arresting members of the caravan made of people coming from different parts of Central America.

On Sunday, a Cuban national was shot dead by the police force.
