Netherlands: Thousands implore govt to intervene in housing market woe

Around 2,000 protesters marched through the streets of The Hague on Sunday, imploring the government to intervene in the housing market situation.
Participants could be seen marching and lighting flares. Police horses appeared to be spooked by the crowds.
Independent activist group Residential Resistance, or Woonverzet in Dutch, held banners to draw attention to what they see as a continuing housing crisis. They say housing is unaffordable for young people.
This year, the Netherlands has seen a record increase in the average house price, which rose by almost 20 percent in the second quarter compared to 2020, according to the to the Netherlands’ Statistics database.
