Norway: Victims of Kongsberg’s deadly bow-and-arrow attack honoured with memorial

Residents of Kongsberg laid flowers and candles in the centre of the city in a memorial tribute on Friday, following a deadly bow-and-arrow attack conducted by a single attacker earlier in the week.

Five people were killed and three more were injured after the 37-year-old apprehended suspect Espen Andersen Braathen attacked them on Wednesday.

Braathen is currently being held at a medical facility after being arrested, with questions being raised in regards to his mental health.

“It is just heart-breaking that it actually happened and I don’t know what they can do to make sure that it never happens again, but I hope the government [takes] action for it to never happen again,” said Karolina, a local resident.

In an initial statement, Norway’s security services have indicated that the attack appears to be an “act of terrorism.”

An investigation is currently ongoing, with areas of interest in the city being cordoned-off.
