Afghan migrants were seen arriving at the Pakistani border crossing in Chaman with their possessions on Sunday, as they fled from the Taliban offensive in their home country.

One migrant explained what brought lead him to leave Afghanistan.

“My house was destroyed due to war and bombing. I have been moving from one place to another for fifteen days in Afghanistan, but in the end, we were forced to migrate to Pakistan,” he explained, before stressing that fleeing Afghans needed more help from the Pakistani government.

Earlier in July, the Taliban seized control of Spin Boldak, the Afghan border town that sits across from Chaman.

Due to the tense situation in Afghanistan, a large number of Afghan families, including children, have been forced to flee over the border into Pakistan, with increased numbers also escaping into Iran.

Following 20 years of military intervention, the impending withdrawal of US and NATO forces has been met by a renewed offensive by the Taliban, who have captured several key border crossings and swathes of the country.

The Biden administration has confirmed that all US military forces would have left the country by August 31.

SOT, Afghan migrant (Pashto): “The situation there is very bad. My home is in Kandahar, Afghanistan. My house was destroyed due to war and bombing. I have been moving from one place to another for fifteen days in Afghanistan, but in the end, we were forced to migrate to Pakistan. This is also a Muslim country like ours. We appeal to the government. Anyone coming from Afghanistan should be treated well and helped, and a refugee camp should be set up here for Afghan refugees because the Afghan nation is very poor. People who had money all went to foreign countries. They are poor people. They are coming to Pakistan. Cooperate and help these poor people because 2,000 Afghans are bringing goods from Afghanistan. The rent for everything else is very high. Help these poor Afghans for the sake of humanity.”
