UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was received in Warsaw by his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister on Thursday. This visit is set by Johnson to strengthen the political and military support of the UK to Poland amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia tensions.

“The reason I am here is because Poland is absolutely critical to our collective European security. The lesson of the last 100 years is that when Poland is threatened with instability or aggression on the borders of Poland, then we are all threatened,” said Johnson at the press conference.

“We won’t accept, Poland and the UK won’t accept a world in which a powerful neighbour can bully or attack their neighbours,” added the UK Prime Minister, as he informed listeners about the arrival of 350 British troops in Poland.

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Mateusz Morawiecki, Polish Prime Minister (Polish): “Great Britain showed great evidence of solidarity with Ukraine, with Poland and with the entire eastern part of NATO. Thanks a lot for that. Thank you very much for sending troops. For being so involved here and being so involved in the security of NATO’s eastern flank. The political goal of Putin is to break up NATO, so we must definitely show how coherent we are, because we are coherent. We have a great understanding of the tensions on NATO’s eastern flank.” *NO CUTAWAYS AT SOURCE*

SOT, Mateusz Morawiecki, Polish Prime Minister (Polish): “Ladies and gentlemen, where the point of reference is imperial policy, everything can become a tool of aggression. the gas pipeline, migrants, and the Internet. And that’s what we’re experiencing today. The Northern Gas Pipeline [Nord Stream 2], here’s a call upon to our German neighbours to declare as soon as possible that this gas pipeline will not be used as an element of blackmail.”
