Hundreds joined a Belarusian opposition march in Warsaw on Sunday, on the eve of the anniversary of the country’s disputed 2020 presidential election that sparked mass protests.

Belarusians living in exile in Poland marched along with locals with banners bearing messages such as ‘Belarus will be free.’ Many were also carrying the country’s white-red-white former flag, which has become a symbol of the opposition movement.

Former Belarusian Culture Minister and now opposition leader Pavel Latushka spoke at the demo.

“Lukashenko and his junta should be recognised as an international terrorist organisation,” said Latushka.

The marchers went past both the US and Russian embassies as they made their way to that of Belarus.

The disputed election in 2020, which saw incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth time, were dismissed as fraudulent by the EU, USA, and other countries, and sparked the largest anti-government protests in the country’s history.
