Protesters held a demonstration in the streets of Santiago on Friday to demand the release of those arrested after the October 2019 demonstrations, and an end to the Dominga port-mining project.
During the protest, water cannons were repeatedly deployed by police forces in an attempt to disperse the crowd.
According to preliminary reports from the police, 11 protesters were detained.
The Dominga project, a sea port and iron and copper mine in the Coquimbo region, north of Santiago, was approved by a regional Chilean environmental commission last Wednesday.
Chile is the world’s largest copper producer.
