Russia: 13-metre whale carcass washes up on Bering Island

The carcass of a 13-metre humpback whale was found washed up on the shore of Bering Island in Kamchatka, local Komandorsky Nature Biosphere Reserve announced on Tuesday.

The nature reserve’s employees found the carcass while patrolling the coastline, the agency said.

The biosphere reserve’s scientific department will now analyse samples taken from the carcass and try to determine what caused the marine mammal’s death.
