Russia: Moscow not to act as mediator between Taliban, other forces in Afghanistan - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow has no intention to act as a mediator between the Taliban and other forces in Afghanistan during a conference in Ekaterinburg on Thursday.

“We are calling the Taliban and other ethnic and political groups in Afghanistan to negotiate about the creation of an inclusive transitional government. Currently, we are not planning to act as mediators in these negotiations,” said Lavrov.

The Russian top diplomat also commented on the European Union’s lack of response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement, who called on Donbass residents, who consider themselves Russian, to leave the region for Russia.
“The West’s reticence clearly exposes its true intent. This shows that it is important for it to keep this type of Ukraine under control so that it will constantly be barking at the Russian Federation,” he added.
Regarding the use of illegal drugs in sports, Lavrov said that he doesn’t exclude the possibility that the United States takes biased measures against athletes with a positive doping test ‘whom the Americans consider a threat to their interests in international competitions.’

Also, most importantly, I think that the skill and willpower level which we saw from our sportsmen wearing ROC [Russian Olympic Committee] uniforms proves the pointlessness of artificial restrictions of our athletes.”

“The whole anti-doping system must be completely reviewed. Currently, it’s being privatised by the EU. I don’t remember the WADA governing bodies. Of the 15 participants, 12 are from NATO countries, Australia and Japan. Such an imbalance towards the world powers who present the absolute minority of the world’s population is wrong”.
