Russia is seeking to boost its economic sovereignty instead of building a “fortress” and “living behind fortress walls,” President Vladimir Putin said in Moscow on Tuesday at VTB Capital’s investment conference titled Russia Calling.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): ” We do not seek to ‘create fortresses’ and live behind fortress walls, we simply raise the level of our sovereignty, including economic. And we will, of course, continue to strive for this.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “Exactly 10 years ago, the entire ‘civilised world’ applauded the Arab Spring, but where is this spring? Apart from the tragedy, nothing happened. Because from the outside they began to use objective difficulties in some countries to swing the situation, to build life in these countries according to their own patterns. A similar attempt was made in Afghanistan. And we all well know how it ended. We see that our partners say: ‘Yes, we were wrong, it was impossible to behave this way in Afghanistan,’ but continue to behave in the same way in other regions of the world. Unfortunately, this difficult Afghan example taught almost nothing. Now, I will not give the names and surnames, but I have heard many times from colleagues: ‘Yes, we overdid it, did not take this and that into account, but the same thing continues in other regions, including Africa and the Middle East.’”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “Largely under the influence of external factors, the growth of consumer prices in our country has accelerated. This is a serious problem that is sensitive for citizens, especially for low-income families.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “It is important not only to cope with the effects of inflation but also to act proactively, removing the factors that push prices up.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “In January - September 2021, GDP grew by 4.6 percent. At the end of the year, its growth is forecasted at the level of 4.2 percent.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “The Russian Federation is also experiencing certain concerns about the fact that large-scale exercises are being conducted near its borders, including unplanned ones, as was the case most recently in the Black Sea.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “The possible introduction of Russian troops into Ukraine was discussed at the beginning of the year. But as we can see, this did not happen. The point is not whether to bring in troops or not, to fight or not to fight. And the point is to improve relations to create a more equitable, sustainable development and to take into account the interests of all participants in international activities. Now, if we sincerely strive for this, no one will experience any threats.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “If some kind of shock systems appear on the territory of Ukraine, the flight time to Moscow will be seven to ten, and in the case of placing hypersonic weapons - five minutes. Just imagine, you live in Moscow, East Capital [company] - Moscow. Here is a flight time of five minutes to Moscow.”

Journalist (Russian): “We have been in Moscow for 15 years.”
Putin:” What are we to do? Then we will have to create something similar in relation to those who threaten us.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “I ask the government to prepare an updated action plan within a week in connection with the risks of the spread of a new strain of coronavirus.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “Things have come to the point that missile defence systems are deployed in Poland and Romania. And the launchers that are there, MK-41, can also be equipped with Tomahawks - strike systems. But this also creates threats for us. Well, this is an obvious fact, an obvious thing. For all our persuasions and requests not to do this, what happened? What we see now. In response, we were forced, I want to emphasise this, were forced to start developing hypersonic weapons. This is our answer. We didn’t do it.”

SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): “The trick is that, in accordance with the Constitution, I have the right to be elected for a new term. Whether I will do it or not, I have not yet decided for myself. But the very existence of this right is already stabilising the political situation. Something like Biden’s statement that he will be elected. The fact that I have this right to be elected is enough, while it is too early to say who and what plans in 2024.”
