SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister (Russian): “The situation in the area of European security is critical indeed “It’s become so because of Washington and NATO which among other things use Ukraine as leverage against Russia. We have proposed to Americans and other Western countries a realistic way out of this situation, we have put forward relevant proposals, and we have done this publicly not to inflate the stakes or somehow narrow the room for manoeuvre for someone, but simply [to show] everyone who is interested in this, and there are many of them, so they can really understand what we are talking about.”
SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: “I do believe that there is no risk for a larger-scale war to start to unfold in Europe or elsewhere. We do not want and will not take any action of aggressive character. We will not attack, strike, ‘invade’ - whatever - Ukraine.”
SOT, Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: “It has been said dozens of times in recent weeks and I just reconfirm this, we see the threat of Ukraine becoming ever more integrated in NATO without even acquiring a formal status of a NATO member-state. This is something that goes right to the centre of Russia’s national security interests. And we will do our utmost to reverse this situation, to rebalance this situation through diplomatic means. And we think drafts that were presented to the US are exactly the way to go to find a diplomatic solution.”

Russia has no intention to take “any action of aggressive character” against Ukraine, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated during a Valdai Discussion Club meeting in Moscow, Wednesday.
“I do believe that there is no risk for a larger-scale war to start to unfold in Europe or elsewhere. We do not want and will not take any action of aggressive character. We will not attack, strike, ‘invade’ - whatever- Ukraine,” said Ryabkov, who led the Russian delegation at the security talks with the US in Geneva last week.
Ryabkov said Ukraine’s close ties with NATO pose a threat to Russia even without Kiev becoming a member of the military alliance.
“This is something that goes right to the center of Russia’s national security interest. And we will do our utmost to reverse this situation, to rebalance this situation through diplomatic means. And we think drafts that we’ve presented to the US are exactly the way to go to find a diplomatic solution,” he stressed.
Last month, Russia’s Foreign Ministry published draft security proposals between Moscow and Washington on ensuring the security of Russia and NATO member states.
Consultations on these issues were held on January 10 in Geneva, a session of the NATO-Russia Council was held on January 12 in Brussels and a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council took place on January 13 in Vienna.
