Two of the Russian Defence Ministry’s carrying evacuees from Afghanistan landed at the Chkalovsky airfield in the Moscow region on Wednesday evening.

“The passengers are currently undergoing customs and anticovid controls,” the Defence ministry’s press service said.

The evacuation of more than 380 citizens of Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Afghan students studying at Russian universities was organised by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on President Vladimir Putin’s order.

The Defence Ministry also reported that all three aircraft have medical and nursing teams of military medics on board. A sufficient supply of drinking water, blankets and individual food rations has been formed for the evacuees.

Over 200 citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan and CSTO countries (Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia) were evacuated from Afghanistan by military plane on November 18.

SOT, Asad Lani Rakahan, evacuated entrepreneur (Russian): “We thank Russia for getting us an aeroplane. And thanks to Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Russia for doing such a good thing for us: [the citizens] from Afghanistan are already in Moscow. It is a nice and beautiful plane, and it was a nice trip. I am thankful that it was a big one for the citizens of the Russian Federation who were in Afghanistan.”

SOT, Hosein Sein-Ashladula, evacuated student of Voronezh University (Russian): “I would first thank Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and the Ministry of Interior for evacuating students as planned so that students could return to study.”

SOT, Hosein Sein-Ashladula, evacuated student of Voronezh University (Russian): “Well, if there is a Taliban, not only me, but none of the students will want to go back home, to their home country, to Afghanistan. But if the situation is good there, in Afghanistan, I will be the first student to go back. Because I finished my master’s degree in Russia, and I came back because I got a scholarship to graduate school again.”

SOT, Mohamed Eltaro, an evacuated Russian citizen (Russian): “There’s been a very long, long wait. About two months. And somewhere around 8 o’clock we flew out, and now I don’t know what’s the time, but it was fine, thank you.”
