Residents of Vladivostok, Sevastopol, Kazan, and Saint Petersburg voted in the elections of deputies of the Russian State Duma on Friday.
The first day of voting in Vladivostok ended earlier than in other regions. Its residents expressed different opinions about the elections. According to one voter Anna Milyutina, it’s necessary to vote in order to determine the future of the country.
“It’s considered, yes, that we choose our future life, yes. We are choosing our future by participating in the elections now, at the moment. Therefore, it is necessary to vote,” she said.
At one of the polling stations in Kazan, residents could watch an entertainment program with dances and ditties. In addition, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the elections in Kazan.
Voters in Sevastopol simultaneously elect local deputies, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly, as well as representatives of the region in the State Duma on voting days.
According to the regional government, with reference to the Public Observation Centre, more than 30 thousand Sevastopol residents made their choice during the first day of voting.
Russia’s 2021 legislative elections are set to take place on September 19, with voting to run for three days, starting on September 17. Voters will elect 450 State Duma deputies in total, via Russia’s mixed electoral system. Half will be selected from party lists in one federal constituency, with the other 225 elected in single-mandate constituencies under the first-past-the-post voting system.
