Russia: WHO inspection as part of Sputnik V approval procedure expected in December

A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to visit Russia as part of the Sputnik V vaccine approval procedure in December, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev told reporters on Wednesday from Moscow.

“The Russian Health Ministry is holding a dialogue with the WHO now, we expect the inspection in December and see progress in that process,” said Dmitriev.

The head of RDIF also announced the appearance of the Sputnik vaccine for adolescents on the international market.

“We have a vaccine for adolescents from 12 to 17 years old. It [was] registered in Russia today and it will be available in other markets,” Dmitriev concluded.

Earlier on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said children will be vaccinated against the coronavirus with the consent of their parents or minors if they are over 15. Golikova said the vaccine could enter civilian circulation at the end of December this year.

Sputnik V was registered in Russia on August 11, 2020, becoming the first officially registered vaccine against the coronavirus infection worldwide. To date, the jab has been certified in 71 countries.
