Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said it is difficult to take NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statements seriously, speaking at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

“I have not been giving consideration to his statements for a long time. I think he’s already lost touch with reality,” the minister said, commenting on Stoltenberg’s statement that NATO could deploy additional combat units in eastern Europe.

Lavrov said that in his view the Western countries are in a “military haze” when it comes to Ukraine, adding that Moscow is “ready for any course of events”.

“I can only confirm once again that we are ready to protect the interests of our country, its security, and the security of our citizens in the most dependable way,” he stated.

The US and the West have warned that Russia is planning to invade Ukraine amid a troop build-up on the regions around the Russia-Ukraine border. Moscow has repeatedly dismissed the accusations as “disinformation”.
