Belgrade police were seen guarding a mural of Ratko Mladic on Tuesday. The Bosnian Serb general was convicted for 10 charges of war crimes and is serving a life sentence in The Hague.
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights announced earlier that it would remove the mural, but police prevented them from doing so. However, officers were deployed in case the initiative decided to ignore the government’s ban.
The streets leading to the mural were blocked by cars and only people living in the area were allowed to pass.
Two police vans could be seen on both sides of the streets in central Belgrade where the mural is located, and numerous police officers were deployed in the streets nearby.
