German Health Minister Jens Spahn recommended getting a booster shot at the health minister conference in Lindau, as he was briefing the press on Germany’s COVID-19 strategy to break the fourth wave.

“An important signal of these days is that the medical profession, as well as the federal government and the federal states, agree that everyone who has had the second vaccination six months or more ago should be able to get a booster vaccination,” he said at the press conference.

The booster shot is especially recommended for elderly people, medical staff and people with medical pre-conditions, added Spahn and emphasized the importance of test measures in care facilities and old people’s homes.

When asked whether a vaccination mandate for medical and nursing staff should be set up, Spahn answered that increased testing at the facilities should be implemented instead to avoid a further division in the country through mandatory vaccinations.

Strict 3G (tested, vaccinated, recovered) rules for indoor events are intended to help contain the coronavirus in Germany, according to the will of the federal and state governments. The rules will stay in place and will be more closely controlled throughout autumn and winter. 2G - access only for vaccinated and recovered people - was set as an option for so-called corona hotspots with a high infection rate.
