Lava and ash continue to erupt from the La Palma volcano in the Canary Islands, as seen in images filmed on Wednesday.

After the volcanic activity decreased for some time on Sunday, it gained intensity again at the beginning of the week.

So far, the eruption has led to the evacuation of more than 6,000 people from their homes. Scientists have warned that the eruption could continue for weeks, or even months.

After 10 days since the eruptions started, lava emerging from the volcano reached the Atlantic waters on Tuesday night. The solidified magma is creating a delta that is already 500 metres wide on the Tazacorte coast.
