Spain: Lava from La Palma volcano destroys new urban area

Footage filmed on Thursday shows the advance of the lava flow of the Cumbre Vieja volcano into the neighbourhood of La Laguna, in La Palma.

This newly affected urban area was already evacuated last week due to the risk because of the proximity of the lava.

Scientists have been closely monitoring the volcano since it erupted on September 19th for the first time in 50 years.

Since then, the lava has ravaged more than 800 hectares and destroyed more than 2,200 buildings, in addition to triggering the evacuation of about 7,000 people.
