Members of the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) participated in the removal of solidified lava in La Laguna, La Palma, on Monday as recovery work took place after the declared ending of the island’s volcanic eruption.

An excavator was used to remove large fragments of solid lava and measurements of the toxic gas levels were carried out throughout the process.

Members of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Care for Volcanic Risk (Pevolca) officially announced the end of the La Palma volcano eruption on Saturday.

Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez committed to the “reconstruction” and a “relaunch” of the island with the help of the Spanish government on Monday during his eighth visit to La Palma since the eruption began in September.
