Supporters of the Cuban government gathered outside the Cuban embassy in Madrid under the slogan ‘With Cuba against the Blockade, against Imperialist Aggression’ on Monday.
Dozens of supporters held signs that read ‘Solidarity with the Cuban revolution’ and July 26 flags, Fidel Castro’s political party, while chanting, ‘Hail Cuba, Fidel and Che.’

SOT, Protester (Spanish): “This time, the enemies’ excuse, the enemies of our country, their society, their people, their democratic and social project is, they say, to defend the possibility of demonstrating in Cuba. It’s another lie that emerges as a response to the local Cuban governments’ denial of authorisation to protest against the agreements of the recently approved, by the 86 percent of the population, Cuban Constitution.”

SOT, Willy Meyer, Former Member of Parliament and member of Izquierda Unida: “We’re living a day of solidarity with the Cuban people, to support their independence, their sovereignty, against another attack of the North American empire, that wants to break the will of the popular will, something they won’t achieve. In Spain, we’re doing several solidarity actions for a country that’s suffering a naval blockade for more than 40 years, which is an act of war, every naval blockade is an act of war.”

The nationwide November 15 protest on the Caribbean Island demanding the release of political prisoners and greater freedom has been throttled by the government, with heavy security forces on the streets and several arrests.
