Spokespeople from Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP), Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and the Green Party are giving a press statement in Berlin on Thursday, October 21, ahead of the first round of formal negotiations of the so-called ‘traffic light coalition’ on the roadway to forming a potential new majority government.

Statements are expected from the general secretaries of the FDP and the SPD, Volker Wissing and Lars Klingbeil, as well as the political director of the Green Party, Michael Kellner.

The coalition, named after the three parties’ traditional colors which resemble the classic traffic light arrangement, agreed to start the negotiation three weeks after the elections and two weeks after exploratory talks that resulted in a 12-page document, which was accepted by all three parties.
