On Friday, several protesters were injured in clashes with Israeli security forces as they protested the construction of a new settlement in Beita, in the northern West Bank.

“Either we remain free on our land, or the settlements are removed from Mount Sabih,” said Abdullah Abu Rahma, Member of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission.

The protest started with a peaceful march with placards in the so-called beta area, in which about a hundred people participated after Friday prayers. The march turned into a confrontation of stone-throwing residents and Israeli security forces armed with gas grenades.

New settlements have been deemed illegal under international law by the International Court of Justice and the United Nations since 2016. Although Israel’s government takes the opposite view, the country’s highest court has repeatedly declared expropriations in the West Bank unconstitutional.

SOT, Abdullah Abu Rahma, Member of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission (Arabic): “Hundred days of continuous protests, in which Beta area sacrificed more than 6 martyrs in this short time. This shows our determination for a better life or rather death, no option but to remain free on our land, and the settlements to be removed from Jabal Sabih, thus it is a strong message along with the continuous activities and steadfast response, until the end of the Israeli occupation.”

SOT, Hamdan Hamayel, Resident of the Beta area (Arabic): “We say with confidence that the mountain will not fall, after 100 days, we renew the covenant and word to our martyrs, the martyrs who were killed in this place and thousands of those who got wounded and among them those who became disabled, they will not be defeated and we renew the covenant for them.”
